The African Studies Institute cordially invites you to its Annual Awards Luncheon 2024

Here are some of the highlights of the Luncheon:

- The lunch menu will feature cuisine from Donderos’ Kitchen;

- Welcoming the guest speaker, Dr. Frank Gunderson;

- Recognition of UGA’s 2023 SEMAU Students;

- Presentation of the Annual Lioba Moshi Awards (ALMA).

 

THE ANNUAL LIOBA MOSHI AWARDS

The Annual Lioba Moshi Awards (ALMA) is bestowed in appreciation of continuous service to African Studies at UGA. The winners of the six outstanding ALMAs are:

1.       Ibigbolade Aderibigbe (Emeritus Professor, Religion and African Studies – 2019 ALMA recipient);

2.       Valentine Nzengung (Professor, Geology – 2020 ALMA recipient);

3.       Dainess Maganda (Senior Lecturer, Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies – 2021 ALMA recipient);

4.       John Mativo (Professor, Workforce Education and Instructional Technology & Engineering – 2022 ALMA recipient);

5.       Tim Cleaveland (Associate Professor, History – 2023 ALMA recipient); and

6.       Alex Kojo Anderson (Professor, Nutritional Sciences – 2024 ALMA recipient).

The annual award was established in November 2012 as part of the commemoration of twenty-five years of African Studies programming at the University of Georgia. The Lioba Moshi Award for Service in African Studies recognizes the efforts of a faculty or staff member affiliated with the African Studies Institute who has provided steadfast service to the field of African Studies at the University of Georgia.

Congratulations to all recipients! Each ALMA recipient will receive an award plaque and $250 (two hundred and fifty dollars).
